Dorothy A. Anderson, 99, of Jamestown passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024 in her home.
A lifelong area resident she was born July 4, 1924 in Jamestown, the daughter of the late John and Rose Blashaw Mason Sr.
Dorothy was a graduate of Falconer High School and along with her late husband Harold A. Anderson owned and operated Anderson Turkey and Poultry Farm until 1992. Dorothy had also been employed by the Gustavus Adolphus Children’s Home.
She was a member of the C.E. Smith PTA and Girl Scout Leader for C.E. Smith School. Dorothy was also a member of the Allen Cemetery Society and Allen Cemetery Association. She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and taking care of her home and family farm on Buffalo Street Ext. She loved spending time in her beautiful gardens, and you could often see her tending to her flowers. Passerbys would stop and comment on her colorful display of flower beds.
Surviving are two sons Alan N. (Marsha) Anderson of Jamestown, Bruce C. (Tina) Anderson of W.E., Jamestown; a daughter Cynthia R. Anderson (Dan Gates) of Jamestown; four grandchildren Lori (Michael) Bird, Shawn (Crystal) Anderson, Kurt (Alisha) Anderson, Alissa Anderson (Joe Skurski); 13 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a brother Paul (Jan) Mason of Frewsburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harold A. Anderson whom she married Jan. 8, 1944, who died Sept. 12, 1994; four brothers John Mason, Harold, Gerald, and James Carter, and a sister, Virginia Josephson.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Rev. Phil Roushey pastor of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Allen Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be donated to Falconer Fire Department or James Prendergast Library.
