James J. Tumminia

James J. (Jim) Tumminia, 85, formerly of 63 Ames Ave., Jamestown, NY passed away Monday, June 17, 2024, in Noblesville, IN. Born on January 14, 1939, in Jamestown, NY, the son of the late Joseph and Natalina “Nellie” Dicembre Tumminia.

Jim was a 1957 graduate of Jamestown High School.

Professionally, Jim spent his career, spanning 26 years in sales, with Metropolitan Insurance. After retiring from Metropolitan Life, he continued to work for First Niagara Bank and HSBC Bank as an Investment Advisor. Keeping busy in his retirement years, he enjoyed meeting new people while driving for CARTS.

Jim’s love and support for his family and friends were evident everyday throughout his life. He also loved the community in which he lived and served on the Jamestown City Council for 16 years, representing Ward VII. During his years on the City Council, he served on the Board of Public Utilities, was appointed to the Jamestown Civil Service Commission in the early 2000s and was active in various clubs including the Sertoma Club. Jim enjoyed playing baseball and golf and was a huge sports fan, always cheering on his beloved NY Yankees and Buffalo Bills. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church for many years where he was active in the Italian Festival and served as President of the Board. In recent years, he had been a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth R. (Traniello) Tumminia who passed away on Oct. 25, 2018; parents, Joseph & Natalina Tumminia; sister, Geraldine M. Jack; and niece, Michelle Pekarski.

He is survived by his three daughters, Debra (Craig) Kerrison of Lockport, NY; Cheryl (David) Eckler of Fishers, IN; and Natalie (Andrew) Peters of Eldersburg, MD. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Ryan Eckler, Kaitlyn Eckler and Alyssa Peters and nephews: Bruce Pekarski, Lucas Pekarski, Joseph Traniello and Matthew Traniello as well as his beloved pup, Bella.

Family and friends may call Friday, June 28, 2024, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Lind Funeral Home, 805 W. Third St., Jamestown, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. James Roman Catholic Church, 27 Allen St., Jamestown, NY, on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 12 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association or the Chautauqua County Humane Society.
