Duane Munson
On June 10, 2024, Duane Munson, after 77 years in this temporary home on earth, departed to live with God for eternity in heaven. Duane is preceded in heaven by his parents, Velma Carlberg and Elmer Munson, and his sister, Joyce Anderson.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Munson, of Orlando, Florida; his three children including his daughter, Lisa Munson Topalovich, her husband, Stefan, and their four sons, Alex, Zach, Jake, and Nicholas, of Newtown, PA; his son, Richard Munson, his wife, Christina and their three children, Mikayla, Olivia, and Cade of Burke, Virginia; and his son, Kevin Martin Munson, of Orlando, FL. He is also survived by his brother, David Munson, and his wife, Dottie, of Kennedy, NY.
Duane played baseball, basketball and ran track at Frewsburg High School. He went on to get his Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Kent State University. He served in the Army, where he was stationed in Nurnberg, Germany during the Vietnam War era and retired as a Lt. Col. while serving as a recruiter for West Point. Duane was a District Sales Manager for Kendall Motor Oil/Phillips 66 for 40 years. He was an avid sports fan, and recently played in three traveling golf leagues.
Duane never met a stranger. His life was marked by his dedication to his family, and his kindness to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his loved ones and remembered for his legacy of love and devotion. Can’t you imagine a healthy, smiling Duane teeing off on the most beautiful golf course in heaven with his buddies?
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Frewsburg on Friday Aug. 16 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Mission Continues (https://www.missioncontinues.org/donate/). The Mission Continues is a charity that connects veterans to service opportunities in under-privileged communities.
