Johanna Regina Schneider

Johanna Regina Schneider

Johanna Regina Schneider, 79, of Cochranton, died Sunday, July 14, 2024 at the Meadville Medical Center, Transitional Care Unit following a 6 months illness.

Born in Vinzelburg, Germany, she was the daughter of Heinz and Johanna Reede Keunecke. She married Fredrick W. Schneider on June 15, 1963 and he preceded her in death on January 20, 2017.

Johanna emigrated to Canada from Germany with her parents in 1951 at the age of 7. At the age of 17, she: her parents and sister Mary moved to Doylestown, PA and they all became naturalized citizens of the United States.

In 1963 she graduated from Central Bucks West in Doylestown. She was a cashier at Sears in Norristown, worked at JC Penney as an accountant in Meadville, the former Golden Dawn in Cochranton, but was best known for being a housewife, mother and grandmother.

She was very active in the community of Cochranton. A member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, she was involved with the Altar and Rosary Society and helped cater numerous dinners at the Social Hall.

Johanna was also a member of the Cochranton Community Fairboard, where she utilized her organizational skills and creative talents to help grow the fair and keep it strong. She was also instrumental in starting and organizing the Our Lady of Lourdes food booth at the fair.

She will be honored posthumously this year by the Pennsylvania State Fair Board as a “Friend of the Fair”. A truly well deserved award.

Johanna was a wonderful and caring daughter, wife, mother mummum and friend. She was an excellent cook and baker. She loved every family celebration and holiday, which included food, laughter and yes sometimes, arguments. If you left the table hungry you weren’t trying hard enough.

Being a talented artist and creating beautiful floral arrangements and wreaths was one of her talents. She attended many craft shows throughout the area and was a founding member of the County Crafters Craft Guild. She made all of the bouquets for Bill and Heather and Regina and Kevin’s wedding.

Her family was her greatest joy especially her grandchildren, Hannah, Tyce, Alison and Abigail. They cherish the wonderful memories made with their Mummum and Poppop.

Survivors include her son William (Heather) Schneider of Panama, NY, a son-in-law, Kevin Merritt of Cochranton. Four grandchildren, Hannah Schneider of Portsmouth, VA, Tyce Schneider of West Seneca, NY, Alison and Abigail Merritt of Cochranton. A sister, Mary (Paul) Metzinger of New Britian PA, a sister-in-law and brother-in law Pat and Terry Hall of Lovettsiville, VA a nephew Brandon Metzinger and a longtime friend and partner in adventure, Joanne Froella.

In addition to her parents and her husband’s parents, she was preceded in death by a son James Schneider and a daughter, Regina Merritt.

We rejoice knowing she will be joining Dad, Regina and Jimmy in heaven.

A gathering of Friends and Family will be at the DICKSON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 123 S. Franklin St., Cochranton on Thursday, July 18, 2024 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00am on Friday at the Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Cochranton with the Rev. Jeff Lucas as Celebrant.
