Neal G. “Spike” John

Neal G. “Spike” John, 91, of De Pere, WI, and formerly of Lakewood, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Bellin Memorial Hospital, Green Bay, WI.

Neal was born on August 19, 1932, in Brisbin, PA, the son of the late Evan C. and Myrtle Kephart John.

Neal served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a former member of Busti Federated Church and a member of Celoron American Legion Post777. Neal was a truck driver for Schnieder Transport and retired in 1995.

Neal was an avid reader and a great cook. He enjoyed sports and was a big fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Penn State Nittany Lions. Neal had horses in his younger years and enjoyed working with them throughout his life.

In addition to his parents, Neal is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria J. Weaver John whom he married on April 2, 1971, and who died on September 12, 2003; his daughter: Kathryn J. McClendon; his brothers: Evan “Bum” John and Marvin “Buck” John; his sisters: Frances Neal, Myra Date, Beverly Marucci, Marion Thomas and Gladys “Katie” John; and his longtime companion: Jean Duffy.

Neal is survived by his sons: Steven G. (Lisa) John of Rotonda West, FL, Adam M. John (Maria Melendez) of Reading, PA and Nathan (Linda) Cohen of Jamestown, N.Y.; two stepdaughters: Tammy Cordle of De Pere, WI and Annette (Kurt) Nierode of Gleason, WI; two grandsons: Alejandro John of Philadelphia, PA and Aiden Cordle of De Pere, WI; two brothers: James (Stella) John of Mt. Holley, NJ and Larry (Bonnie) John of Tionesta, PA; one sister: Evelyn “Ted” Socoski of Brisbin, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may visit Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home, Inc., 316 E. 5th Street, Jamestown, NY on Saturday, July 20th from 10-11 AM. A funeral service will be at 11 AM. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Lakewood, N.Y.
