Paula D. Saxton Olson

The daughter of Edith Johnson Salomonson, Paula was born April 28, 1933, into the compassionate presence of her lifelong father, Mauritz Salomonson, who raised her following her biological father, Kermit Chindgren’s, passing, prior to her birth.

Paula graduated from Jamestown High School and had a short career with the FBI before marrying Lloyd E. Saxton. Lovingly, they had four children together before Lloyd’s passing at age 30. Paula then married Elton R. Olson, whom she created a happy home with, up until his passing in 2008.

She loved the water and raised her children with fervent dedication in Burtis Bay on Chautauqua Lake where she stated that she “wouldn’t trade her sunsets for a million dollars!” A Sunday school teacher at Celoron United Methodist Church, she had a strong faith in God and humanity, often questioning, rather than passing judgment, on others.

Paula will be forever remembered for her unfailing laughter and infectious smile that would somehow always light up the room. Her home was filled of warmth, largely because of the person she was. She had an abundance of love for children. She enjoyed playing games of all sorts or singing along as she or her company would play the piano in her living room. Paula was always ready for a good joke, a Davidson’s fish fry, or some Johnny’s hot dogs. She also never passed up the chance for a second glance at a good lookin’ guy!

Paula will be affectionately missed by her daughter, Cindy (Charlie Jr.) Stroth of Ellery Center; two sons: Mark (Michelle) Saxton of Jamestown and Ronald (Carol) Saxton of Michigan; one step-daughter Suzanne Olson and one step-daughter-in-law Hatsuko Olson both of Arizona. She also leaves behind eight grandsons: Jordan (Taylor) Saxton, David Saxton, Scott (Dawn) Vincent, Kelly (Krista) Vincent, Charlie Stroth III (Char Anderson), Andrew (Kristine) Stroth, Erik (Cassandra) Stroth, Shawn (Carrie) Heinrich; three granddaughters: Britany (Nicholas) Emley, Jill Saxton (Justin Roberts), Stacy (Jeff) Chase; two step-grandsons: Robert (Rosa) Olson, Chris (Elsa) Olson; and two step-granddaughters: Melanie Olson and Megan Kohler. The Saxton/Olson legacy continues with 36 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husbands, Paula was preceded in death by her daughter, Beth Vincent, her step-son, Terry Olson, and her father and mother-in-law, Fred and Rose Saxton.

In keeping with Paula’s wishes, no visitation will be observed. A graveside memorial service at Sunset Hill Cemetery will be announced at a later date.
