Clair Thomas “Fletch” Fletcher, 89, of Jamestown passed away Monday (July 29, 2024) in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing in Jamestown after a sudden and brief illness.
A lifelong area resident, he was born June 20, 1935 in Jamestown the son of the late Lawrence and Cecile Albro Fletcher.
Clair was a 1953 graduate of Jamestown High School and a 1956 graduate of Jamestown Community College. Clair served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1957- 1963. Clair was employed by Jamestown Fabricated Steel for many years as a draftsman and salesman, and retired from Duggan & Duggan General Contractor, Inc. of Olean, NY in 2001.
He enjoyed genealogy, metal detecting, hunting, photography, and was a “Mr. Handy Man” who was able to fix just about anything. Most of all, Clair enjoyed tinkering around his home and spending time with family and friends.
Clair is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley A. Benson Fletcher, whom he married April 6, 1957 in their home on Buffalo St. Ext.; two sons, Daniel (Maggie) Fletcher of Branchville, NJ and Robert (Holly) Fletcher of Stow, Ohio; two grandchildren, Nathaniel Fletcher of Plattsburgh, NY., and Abigail Fletcher of Stow, Ohio; one brother, Lee (Sandy) Fletcher of Frewsburg, NY; one cousin, Eileen Fiscus of VA, as well as many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (August 5, 2024) in the Zion Lutheran Church, Frewsburg, NY., Pastor Phil Roushey will officiate. Burial will be private in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Busti, NY.
The family will receive friends Sunday (August 4, 2024) from 2 pm to 4 p.m. in the Falconer Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service in the church on Monday.
