Margaret “Peg” Rittenhouse Sagebeer Albright

Margaret “Peg” Rittenhouse Sagebeer Albright of Sherman, NY went to be with her Lord on Monday, August 19, 2024, at home, with three of her children at her side.

Peg was born on May 27, 1930, in Wilmington, DE to Richard and Lydia Sagebeer. While Peg was still young, her family moved to West Hartford, CT. Peg married her high school sweetheart, Frederic “Fritz” Albright in West Hartford, CT on June 24, 1950. They lived in Avon, CT, Clinton, MA, Lancaster, MA, West Brookfield, MA, and Cleveland Heights, OH before moving to Sherman, NY in 1982. After moving to Sherman, they also spent three years as missionaries in Ecuador, South America. Peg’s heart broke when her beloved Fritz unexpectedly went to be with his Lord on January 14, 2003.

After her love for her Lord Jesus and Fritz, Peg’s next love was for children: her own family and many others. After raising six children, she earned a B.A. in Education from Cleveland State University and taught Pre-K in Cleveland’s inner city. After moving to New York, she taught in Chautauqua County’s Head Start program and in Sherman’s Preschool program for many years.

Peg was also an avid volunteer. She taught at mission schools in Quito and Shell, Ecuador, and made two trips to Ukraine to help organize and teach Vacation Bible School there. She volunteered as a teacher’s assistant at Chautauqua Lake School, and was active in her local church’s Sunday Schools, Vacation Bible Schools, and AWANA programs. She also volunteered for hospice.

Peg is survived by her two sisters: Josephine Sagebeer and Elizabeth Jones, both in OH. She is also survived by her six children: Peter Albright (Laurie) of Corry, PA, Stephen Albright of Sherman, NY, Susanne (Patrick Cadarette) Albright of Knoxville, TN, Robin (Fred) Brown of Strongsville, OH, Marian (Kerry) Byard of Sherman, NY, and Matthew (Sara) Albright of Cooperstown, NY as well as eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

Peg’s family will celebrate her life at a private memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, 20 W Fairmount Ave, Lakewood, NY 14750, or to Gospel for Asia, or to Samaritan’s Purse.
