Steven A. Johnson, 78, of Jamestown, died Saturday August 24, 2024, in UPMC Hamot of cardiac arrest.
Steve was born August 21, 1946, in Jamestown, a son of the late Curtis L. and Norma Hall Johnson.
Following graduation from Jamestown High School in 1964 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving on the USS Albany in Marine detachment safeguarding special weapons. He was deployed to Vietnam with the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion 3rd Marine Division and was called up for active duty in Desert Storm.
He was employed for 20 years by the City of Jamestown Police Department and for 6 years by the Chautauqua County Sheriff Department’s Marine Patrol.
He was a member of the 96 Highlanders Pipes and Drums.
He recently returned from an Honor Flight to Washington, DC. The outpouring of “thanks for your service” was an emotional high for Steve and truly appreciated.
Steve had a dry sense of humor and a head full of knowledge, tons of creativity and most importantly honor, integrity and a giving heart. He loved his family, friends and pets.
Surviving is his wife, Judy; sisters Pat Johnson, Pam (Don) DeLong, Donna Culwell, and Chris DeRosa; brothers Dana, Sam, and Steve Johnson; stepmother Judy Johnson and several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Gary and Duane Johnson.
The funeral will be held at 11 am Friday in the Lind Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 5-7 pm Thursday and for one hour prior to the service Friday in the funeral home.
