Betty J. Swanson

She was born September 23, 1923 to the late Leland F. Cannon and Irene Simmons King. Betty graduated from Bemus Point Central School and was employed in bookkeeping by Bank of Jamestown, which then became Bankers Trust and later Key Bank from which she retired. She went on to work part time in the office of Hollyloft Ski and Bike for the next 32 years, retiring at the age of 97.

Betty enjoyed knitting, doing crossword puzzles and her cat, Amos.

She is survived by a son, Bruce W. Swanson of Newton, NC., daughters, Cheryl (Les) Johnson and Sue E. (Walter Boldt) McCaslin, both of Lakewood, NY; grandchildren; Lisa (Robert) Hart, Lynette Swanson, Seri (Peter) Beeson, Lisa Healy, Tammy (Maurice) Arnone, Holly (Robert) Smith, Thomas (Shannon) McCaslin, Tara (Matthew) Smouse, and Sheryl Lynn Swanson; 17 great grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband Lavern S. Swanson in October 1994; her son Jon A. Swanson in September 2014; and her brother Robert L. Cannon.

The family would like to thank the staff at Orchard Grove Assisted Living for the wonderful care she received during the 4 years that she lived there, and Hospice for making her final days comfortable.

As per Betty’s wishes no funeral service or visitation will be observed. Inurnment will be in Busti Cemetery.
