Clair J. Golish
Clair J. Golish
Clair J. Golish, 85, of Jamestown, passed away at home on Saturday, September 7, 2024, following a brief yet grievous fight against cancer.
He was born November 15, 1938, in Wellsville, NY to the late John and Eileen Redner Golish. A lifelong family man, Clair graduated from Whitesville High School in 1957. August 6,1960, marked the momentous day when he married the love of his life, Patricia Martin Golish. Together, they had two children, of which he was not only proud, but passionate. Time with family meant the very most to Clair. Whether it was picnics with the family or watching grandchildren and great-grandchildren play ball, Clair was a gladdened soul when he was around his loved ones.
He, too, adored traveling to and fro in his truck. Clair was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran, serving for four years. Notably, he was on the USS Shangri-La, as remembered by anyone who had the pleasure of seeing Clair out and about, for he wore his hat with honor wherever he went. Machine operation provided Clair the means to support his beloved family. He worked at Weber Knapp and, ultimately, retired from Cummins Engine.
Camping was Clair’s happy place. He had a profound connection to Allegheny State Park, finding beauty amidst nature and in picking up wood. Hunting was another joy, especially when accompanied at camp by his son-in-law Ken. Clair consistently completed crosswords and jigsaw puzzles when he wasn’t otherwise cheering on the Buffalo Bills as a devoted fan.
As the fervent patriarch of his family, Clair’s energy will be missed by his wife, Patricia; his daughter, Leanne (Ken) Franzen; his daughter, Barbara (Brian) Miller; grandchildren: Anthony (Samantha) Golish, Timothy (Samantha) Franzen, Anthony (Kelly) Miller, and Samantha (Eric) Berkenpas; six great-grandchildren; his brother, William (the late Eileen) Golish; and his sister, Joyce (the late John) Waters.
Besides his parents, Clair was preceded in death by his son, Scott J. Golish, on December 3, 2002, as well as seven siblings.
The memorial service for Clair will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 11:00 am at Free Methodist Church in Sugar Grove, PA. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 am on Friday at Free Methodist Church. Burialwill be in Lake View Cemetery.
