Rev. Dr. Robert Warren Barrett Sr., 81, of Urbana, Illinois, passed away at Accolade Health Care of Savoy, Illinois, on Monday, Oct. 7, 2024.

Bob was born in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 30, 1943, the son of Robert Richard and Ruth Stephen Barrett. He married Melody Kay Liskow on July 1, 1967, at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Little Valley, New York. She survives.

He is also survived by his sons, Robert Jr. (Anna) of Urbana, Illinois, and Andrew (Claudia) of Falls Church, Virginia, and by his grandchildren, Frances and Arthur Ivy-Barrett of Urbana and Jack and Holly Barrett of Falls Church.

Bob graduated from Hamburg High School in Hamburg, New York, in 1961 and received a B.A. in history from Hanover College, Indiana, where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He graduated from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois, in 1969 with a Master of Divinity degree and later earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from the same institution in 1981. He was ordained by the Presbytery of Western New York (Presbyterian Church USA) on June 15, 1969, at the First Presbyterian Church in Ellicottville, New York, and served there from 1969-72. The other churches he ministered at were Northminster Presbyterian, Endwell, New York (1972-79); First Presbyterian, Delhi, New York (1979-93); and Tuskawilla Presbyterian, Oviedo, Florida (1993-2006). After he honorably retired in 2006, he served as parish associate at Winter Park Presbyterian, Winter Park, Florida (2006-08). Bob held multiple leadership positions in the Presbyteries of Susquehanna Valley (where he was both Moderator and Stated Clerk) and Central Florida.

His community service included serving on the Village Board in Ellicottville; the Lions Club (president) in Ellicottville; the Lions Club in Binghamton, New York; and the Kiwanis Club (president) in Delhi. Bob was also chaplain at the New York State Youth Camp in Great Valley, New York, and at the Broome County Jail in Binghamton. He was a member of the 4-H Board in Ellicottville and the Broome County Drug Board in Binghamton. He also was a Cubmaster for the Boy Scouts of America in Endwell.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the Little Valley Rural Cemetery, Little Valley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to any of the churches where he ministered.
