Timothy John “Tim” Newell

Timothy John “Tim” Newell

Timothy John “Tim” Newell, 60, of Jamestown, NY, passed away Friday October 4,2024, surrounded by his family after a gallant two-year battle with cancer.

He was born in Jamestown, NY on August 26, 1964, to the late Thomas F. Newell and Mary Ellen Mulvey Newell.Selfless defined everything Tim embodied.

He spent his years doing absolutely everything for anyone, assuredly refusing to accept anything in return. It is common for someone to say they will help another; however, Tim was the soul who committed to and acted on his words with great ambition.

Following graduation from Jamestown High School, Tim joined the United States Army. He achieved the rank of drill sergeant and remained proud of his military accomplishments. For ten years following, he was a long-haul driver, making endless trips across the country. A noble Jamestown DPW foreman, only begrudgingly retiring due to his health, Tim loved all guys that worked for him on his crew. The camaraderie sustained with his brotherhood was companionship that could not be replaced. On his travels around town after retiring, he would invariably stop when he saw the guys hard at work. Whether it was a joke or a critique, the connectedness was boundless.

Beyond his work family, Tim was a family man through and through. The dearest relationship of his life remains with his beloved soul mate, Beth. He lived to love her with unmatched compassion. Tim’s children and grandchildren, too, were integral pieces that upheld his happiness. Just as soon as he got out of work, Tim went straight to helping family with genuine intentions. While he would drive any distance to pick up stranded family left with broken-down cars, he, too, is remembered for staying up until 2am to replace an alternator in a vehicle. Cooking was an additional outlet for Tim to share his love with his family. If he had one smoker, he had seven, and spent entire nights awake with his smokers to be sure them eat was just right.

Tim found personal joy in the outdoor sports of hunting and fishing. He was sponsored by many companies, including Venom Lures, thanks to his great successes in fishing tournaments. Further, Tim adored his outdoor time camping with his dogs and his best friend, Beth. In recent months of sickness, Tim still longed for that favored adventure in the woods. The benevolence that personified all things “Tim” spanned into his care for animals. He got out of the car more than once to save animals who had strayed from their habitats. Much the same, his dogs, the late Sparky and the still doting Marley, were not just his dogs, but his children.

Tim will be deeply missed by his admiring wife, Beth Fransen Newell; his children: Eddie Lyon of Bemus Point, Heather (Kevin) Gutknecht of Jamestown, and Amanda Newell of Falconer; his dog child, Marley; his grandchildren: Kristina (John) Martin,Kristian (Alena Donahue) Gutknecht, and Shayne Caldwell; great-granddaughter, Alesia; sister, Bonnie (Larry) John; and many nieces and nephews. Tim was beyond eager for the arrival of his great-grandchild, who is expected to arrive in the spring. In fact, he’d often enthusiastically tell Beth he couldn’t wait to be there in that hospital to greet the newest life in their family.

Besides his parents, Tim was preceded in death by his brother, Allan Pierce, and his dog, Sparky.

The funeral for Tim will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 10:00 am at Lind Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Friday, October 11, at Lind’s.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
