Wyona Dole Wevers, formerly of 50 South Street, Panama, died on February 8, 2025, in North Richland Hills, TX, where she had resided since September 2020.
She was born February 21, 1930, the daughter of Ernest and Ruth Button Dole. She attended Panama Central School for all twelve years, graduating in 1948 as salutatorian of her class and was a charter member of the National Honor Society.
She attended Panama Methodist Church from childhood until her move to Texas in 2020. She was an active and loyal member since 1941, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served as president of the Methodist Women. She also served as church custodian as a teen and then later for several years as an adult. She said “I have started the coal furnace, swept the floors, mowed the lawn, shoveled the snow and worshipped at the altar”. The church was very central to her life.
The highlights of her life were her marriage to Lester W. Wevers on September 23, 1950, a” promise keeper” long before there was a Promise Keepers organization, and the birth of her four daughters who were the joy of her life. She lived her life as a child of the King, disguised as a stay-at-home wife and mother. She was also a fan of all things Panama Panthers, even continuing to follow them after her move to Texas.
She is survived by her four daughters, Barbara Dunlap(Gary) of Southlake, TX; Marcia Mohoric(Ed) of West Chester, PA; Catherine Caldwell(Sam) of Greenville, TX and Dorothy Morris of North Richland Hills, TX. Also 12 grandchildren – Jennifer Dunn, Melissa Vittas, Adrienne Dunlap, Peter Mohoric, Rachel Abbott, Jesse Mohoric, Drew Mohoric, Aubrey Presley, Cameron Wright, Edith Cody, Margaret McCreight and Wendy Morris, as well as 22 great grandchildren(23 due in June 2025) and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, two brothers (Donald Dole and Charles Dole) and one sister (Barbara Hart) and an infant granddaughter.
A combined Celebration of Life for Lester and Wyona will be held at Panama Methodist Church on June 30.
